Question

why lyophobic colloids are called extrinsic colloids?

Open in App
Solution

Substances which do not pass into colloidal solution even on heating are called extrinsic colloids. Lyophobic colloids are solvent hating due to which they are prepared by indirect methods. A simple mixing of dispersed phase and dispersion medium doesnot lead to formation of colloidal solution. Due to this they are called extrinsic colloids.
