Question

Why the gas exerts pressure on the walls of the container in which it is kept?

Open in App
Solution

As the intermolecular spaces between particles in a gas are very large, they move about randomly at very high speeds. Due to this the particles hit each other and the walls of the container. The pressure exerted by the gas is because of this force exerted by gas particles per unit area on the walls of the container.
