Question

Why we can't dig a well from one end of the earth to another?

Open in App
Solution

Hi Jagpreet!

The temperature of Earth increases with depth. It is about 25oC-30oC per kilometer of depth. At the center of the planet, the temperature may be up to 7000 K and the pressure could reach 360 GPa. Nothing can survive such high temperatures and pressures. So, it is impossible to dig a well from one end of the Earth, to the other end.

Cheers!!
