An aqueous solution reacts with sodium bromide to form yellow precipitate that is used in photography. The precipitate must be silver bromide which decomposes on exposure to sunlight. The orangish gas released must be bromine gas.

Thus the series of reaction can be shown as

AgNO3 + NaBr → AgBr + NaNO3

2AgBr → 2Ag↓ + Br2
