write a short note on protected forests
In the Forest Act of 1878, forests were divided into reserved, protected and village forests. While all human activity and interference was prohibited in the reserved forests, people could collect wood from the protected forests. Though collection of wood was permitted, no other human activity like hunting or poaching was allowed. Many regulations thereafter have updated the laws pertaining to protected areas. These protected forests come to be gradually notified to be wild life sanctuaries like the Sariska Tiger Reserve or Jim Corbett National Park.
