Dialysis is a process of removal of excess water and the waste from the blood. It is an artificial method and used as a replacement for lost kidney function. Dialysis is based on the principle of diffusion of solute and filtration of fluid across the semi-permeable membrane. The semi-permeable membrane allows the passage of small solutes from it but preventing the movement of large molecules such as blood cells, proteins thus performing function similar to kidney glomerulus.
