Question

Yucca and moth complete their life cycle together . Explain

Open in App
Solution

Female moth visits flower of Yucca plant. Moth carries pollen from the anthers and goes to the flower of another plant. She leaves pollen on stigma and fertilization takes place. Now she lays eggs in the flower. In the meanwhile the fruit and seed formation takes place in the plant. When the egg hatches, the larva of moth eats the fruit and seed of the Yucca plant. Without moths Yucca plant's pollination is not possible as they are sole pollinators for Yucca plant. On the other hand the larva of moth cannot survive as larva is dependent on yucca plants for food. Both of them depend on each other for survival and completion of their life cycle.
