Paheli uprooted a rose plant from the soil. Most of the root tips, with root hairs got left behind in the soil. She planted it in a pot with new soil and watered it regularly. Will the plant grow or die? Give reason for your answer.
There can be three possible outcomes.
(i) Root hairs in the plant are responsible for absorption of water from the soil through a process called osmosis. If root hairs are damaged then absorption of water and nutients will be affected and the plant may die.
(ii) If Paheli places the uprooted rose plant in a suitable soil. The plant may grow new roots and plant will live.
(iii) The stem might not be able to adapt to a different kind of soil and might die.
