Solution

Given that the denomination notes of 1000 and 100 are in the ratio 4:10,

No. of 1000 denomination notes Pawan has = 4x

No. of 100 denomination notes Pawan has = 10x (1 mark)

For 1000 notes, amount of money
=Rs.4000x

For 100 notes, amount of money
=10x×100=Rs.1000x (1 mark)

Total sum
=4000x+1000x=Rs.5,00,000 (Given)

5000x=5,00,000

x=100

Number of 1000 denomination notes
=4×100=400 notes (1 mark)
