Pb(NO3)2(aq)+2KCl(aq)→2KNO3(aq)+PbCl2(s)
When lead nitrate solution is mixed with potassium chloride solution, a precipitate of lead chloride and potassium nitrate solution are formed. This type of reaction is called _________________.
Double displacement
Pb(NO3)2(aq)+2KCl(aq)→2KNO3(aq)+PbCl2(s)
In the above reaction, Pb2+ from Pb(NO3)2 displaces K+ from KCl and forms insoluble solid PbCl2 . Similarly, K+ from KCl displaces Pb2+ from Pb(NO3)2 to form KNO3 solution. The ions (Cations) are exchanged between the reactants.Hence this reaction is called double displacement reaction.
