Procedure :

Step 1–: Take a 100 mL beaker.

Step 2–: Fill half the beaker with water and mark the level of water.

Step 3–: Dissolve some salt or sugar by constantly stirring with the help of a glass rod.

Step 4–: Observe any change in the water level.

Observation:

The salt will dissolve in water. There will be no change in the level of the solution so formed.

Conclusion:

This experiment indicates that there are some vacant spaces among the particles of water and the particles of salt occupy these spaces.
