The egg swells because water passes into it by Osmosis.The concentration of solute in the egg is more thanthat in water . This is a state of hypotonicity Water enters from the external medium into the shell causing the cell to swell.
Solution: 2 Marks
Conditions for osmosis are:

1) There should be two solutions of different concentrations of solute.

2) The membrane separating these two solutions should be semipermeable.
