Let the age of the son be x
father's age =40+x
given after 5 years
fathers age is thrise sons age
now fathers age is 40+x+5
sons age=x+5
So as per given 40+x+5=3(x+5)
45+x=3x+15
30=2x
x=15
so present ages are
son:15
father:55
