Potassium and chlorine react to form a compound, Potassium chloride ( KCl ).
That is,​ 2K + Cl2→ 2KCl​
Oxidation: In the electronic concept, oxidation is a process in which an atom or ion loses electron(s).​
Here, potassium undergoes oxidation as it loses an electron and forms a cation.​ K → K+ + e (Loss of one electron)​.
