Predict all the alkanes that would be formed by dehydrohalogenation of the following halides with sodium ethoxide in ethanol and identify the major alkene :
1-bromo-1-menthylcyclohexane
2 -chloro-2-methylbutane
3-bromo- 2,2,3-Trimethylpentane.
1 - bromo-1-methylcyclohexane has two β - hydrogen atomw.
So, two products will be formed.
Note Saytzff's rule : The product is preferred in which the carbon atoms joined by double bond are more alkyl substituted or alkylated.
