We have,
When father was $42 years$ old, son's age $= 14 years$
When father was $41 years$ old, son's age $= 13 years$
When father was $40 years$ old, son's age $= 12 years$
When father was $30 years$ old, son's age $= 12 - 10 = 2 years$
$\begin{array}{rcl} ∴ Ratio of age of father to the age of son & = & \frac{Age of father}{Age of son} \\ = & \frac{30}{2} \\ = & \frac{30 \div 2}{2 \div 2} \\ = & \frac{15}{1} \\ = & 15 : 1 \end{array}$
Hence, required ratio is $15 : 1$
