Question

Pressure of 1 atm is _________ Pa

Open in App
Solution

Pressure:

  1. The formula for pressure is thrust per unit area, thus it is proportional to thrust directly and inversely to the area.
  2. Pressure is a scalar quantity, meaning it only has a magnitude and no direction.
  3. The value of pressure can be either positive or negative.

Value of 1atm in Pa:

  1. The SI unit of pressure is the pascal. and one pascal is equal to 1 newton force applied on an area of 1m2
  2. One bar is equal to the atmospheric pressure at the average sea level and at g=9.8ms-2 where, g is the acceleration due to gravity. There are other units of pressure like bar and dyne.
  3. The atmospheric pressure occurs when the earth pulls the gases towards itself due to its gravitational pull. 1atm is the pressure at the average sea level. At the different points, the value of atmospheric pressure varies.
  4. As we know that 1bar=105pa.....(i)and1atm=1.01325bar.....(ii).
  5. From equations (i) and (ii), we can easily get

1atm=1.01235×105Pa1atm=101325Pa

Hence, the pressure of 1 atm is 101325 Pa.
