Question

Q.19. The intensity of sound wave gets reduced by 20% while passing through the slab. The reduction in intensity of passage through two such consecutive slabs would be :

(2) 36 %
(3) 30 %

Solution

Dear Student ,

Let I0 is the initial intensityafter passing from one slab, intensity is given by:I =I0-I0×20100I = 4I05after passing through the second slab,I' = I-I×20100I' = I×80100I'=4I05×80100 =1625I0 therefore after passing through two sllabs intensity remains 64% of the initial value.
now reduction in intensity on passage through two consecutive slabs = 100 - 64=36 %
