Statement 1 is correct: The Northeast monsoon derives its name from the direction in which they travel i.e. from the northeast to the southwest. Similarly, the summer monsoon moves in exactly the opposite direction i.e. from the southwest to the northeast. That is why it is called the southwest monsoon.
