Laterite soils are the result of Leaching, and not capillary action. Due to heavy rainfall, the nutrients of top soil percolate downward. This is known as leaching. These soils are rich in iron oxide and aluminium compounds.

Statement 2 is correct:
Laterite soils are found in hot and rainy climate of hilly regions of western Ghats, the Chhota Nagpur plateau and Assam, etc.

Statement 3 is incorrect:
These are not rich in humus, as humus content in the soil is removed by fast bacteria that thrives well in high temperature.
