When sunlight is available, the plant uses that energy to perform photosynthesis. In order to use this food for energy, the plant must perform cellular respiration. So, plants for their growth and metabolism, constantly respire to burn food by taking $O_{2}$ and releasing ${CO}_{2}$ . Releasing of ${CO}_{2}$ and intake of $O_{2}$ during day doesn't mean that photosynthesis is not occurring. As long as there is sunlight both photosynthesis and respiration can take place in day time.
