Area of the shaded portion (count the shaded squares) = 8 sq units
Area of the whole figure (count the total squares in the figure) = 16 sq units
Ratio of area of the shaded portion to the whole figure

= 816

= 12=1:2 [on dividing numerator and denominator by 8]


From fig (ii)
Area of the shaded portion (count the shaded triangles) = 16 triangles
Area of the whole figure (count the total triangles in the figure) = 32 triangles
Ratio of area of the shaded portion to the whole figure

= 1632

= 12=1:2 [on dividing numerator and denominator by 16]
