Question 89
A carpenter had a board which measured 3 m×2 m. She cut out a rectangular piece of 250 cm×90 cm. What is the ratio of the area of a cut-out piece and the remaining piece?
Given, board measure = 3 m×2 m
Area of board = Length × Breadth
=3×2=6m2
She cut out a rectangular piece =250 cm×90 cm
Area of the piece =250×90 cm2
= 22500 cm2
= 2250010000 m2 [∵ 1m2=10000 cm2]
= 2.25 m2
Remaining area of board = (6−2.25) m2=3.75 m2
Ratio of the area of cut out piece to the remaining piece
= Area of cut out pieceArea of remaining piece
= 2.25 m23.75 m2
= 225375=35 = 3:5
Hence, the ratio of the area of a cut-out piece and the remaining piece 3 : 5.
