Solution

The correct option is D NPP is lower than GPP
The rate of total capture of energy or rate of total production of organic material (biomass) is called gross primary productivity. Gross primary productivity (GPP) minus the respiratory losses (R) is the Net Primary Productivity (NPP).

Productivity at the polar region is low and limited as the availability of the solar energy at the poles is limited which limits photosynthesis and the number of autotrophs is also limited.

NPP/GPP radio is never constant in any latitude or ecosystem; it varies with all other factors like availability of light and other components to accumulate the biomass.

GPP is the gross collection of biomass including the respiratory losses and when we deduct the respiratory losses from GPP then only we get NPP. So NPP is always lower than GPP.
