(i) Direction of friction is towards right as the net force is towards the left and that is because initially to a time, t Ram will be applying a greater force than Rajat.
(ii) Yes, the direction of friction will change when the body stops and reverses the direction of motion and that will happen after that time, t when Rajat will be applying a greater force than Ram. In that case, the net force will be towards right. So, friction will be towards left.
