Solution

The correct option is B B and C only
Oparin and Haldane proposed the modern theory of origin of life. According to them, the first form of life could have come from pre-existing, non-living organic molecules and that formation of life was preceded by chemical evolution.

This theory was experimentally proven by Urey and Miller in 1953.

Miller took a mixture of water vapour, methane, ammonia and hydrogen gas in a spark chamber (early Earth). He inserted two electrodes to provide electrical discharge to maintain a temperature of about 800℃ in the spark chamber. Hence statement A is incorrect.

The spark chamber was filled with methane, ammonia, and hydrogen in the ratio of 2:1:2 along with water vapor. Early atmosphere was reducing, as there was a lack of oxygen and presence of highly reducing gases like hydrogen. The closed flask was also resembling the early reducing atmosphere. Hence statement B is correct and statement D is incorrect.

The spark chamber was connected to another flask with an arrangement for boiling water (provision for evaporation). The other end of the spark chamber was connected to a trap by a tube that passed through a condenser. Condenser was arranged for condensation and collection of aqueous solution equivalent to rain and Haldane's soup. The trap was connected with the flask, for boiling water (arrangement for circulation of water).

The experiment was continued for a period of seven days continuously. Then he analysed the chemical composition of the liquid inside the apparatus. Hence statement C is correct.

He found a large number of simple organic compounds including some amino acids such as alanine, glycine and aspartic acid. Other substances, such as urea, hydrogen cyanide, lactic acid and acetic acid were also present.
