A. Agar-agar- cell wall composed of a mixture of polysaccharides like cellulose, pectose, and algin(non- sulphated phycolloids. Phycocolloids are complex polysaccharides that store in the cell wall of algae, protect them from desiccation and prevent drying or freezing when exposed to air in low tide.
B. The red algae form a distinct group characterized by having eukaryotic cells without flagella and centrioles. The blue-green algae also lack flagella bit hormogonia of some species can move about by gliding along surfaces.
C. Red algae have chlorophyll a and d. They also have the pigments r-phycoerythrin ( a large amount which gives them their colour) and r - phycocyanin.
