Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) are the primary cause of ozone depletion. CFCs in presence of UV rays release chlorine atoms which react with ozone and break it apart, thus, causing its degradation. Hence, statement 1 is correct.
Chlorofluorocarbons contain carbon, chlorine, fluorine and bromine. Hence, statement 2 is also correct but it is not the correct explanation for statement 1.
