Solution

During his voyage, Darwin visited the Galapagos islands. He observed that the islands have many endemic (localised species, found only in that place) species of plants and animals. Insect-eating warblers and woodpeckers were absent in the Islands because the vegetation of Galapagos islands were more suited for finches and other birds had to compete with finches to survive. Galapagos vegetation has adapted and diversified due to the range of habitat zones in the Galapagos Islands.

Darwin observed a group of small beak birds which were originally seed eating types in the islands. The island had a woodpecker-like finches, cactus feeding type finches, insectivorous finches and warbler like finches, originated from the seed eating ancestral variety. However, insect-eating warblers and woodpeckers are absent in the Galapagos Islands.
