Recently a company in Bangalore made ink with the carbon in the air . How do they extract it? How do they convert it into the carbon ink ?

The ink is created through a three-step process. In the first stage, a contraption(device) retrofitted to the exhaust pipes of vehicles, captures soot emitted from the automobiles. This device is also fitted to the chimneys of factories, boats, and all other exhausts to capture the coming carbon emission. It contains highlr adsorbing materials which captures the carbon particles on their surface.

In the second step, the collected soot undergoes various proprietary processes to remove heavy metals and carcinogens. The end product is purified carbon pigment – a core ingredient used in making ink and paints.

The third step is making the pink itself. As we know the carbon pigment is the core ingredient in making black ink, the remaining process is similiar to paint manufacturing process.This carbon pigment is dissolved in suitable solvents ( organic solvents) along with some additives (to enhance certain properties such as ease of brushing, mould resistance, scuff resistance, drying and sag resistance) to get the carbon ink.
