Refractive index of diamond with respect to glass is 1.6 and absolute refractive index of glass is 1.5. Find out the absolute refractive index of a diamond.

Absolute refractive index of glass, $n_1=1.5=\frac{c}{v_1}$
where, c = speed of light in air
$v_1$ = speed of light in glass
Absolute refractive index of diamond, $n_2=\frac{c}{v_2}$
where, c = speed of light in air
$v_2$ = speed of light in diamond
Refractive index of diamond with respect to glass is given by, $n_{21}=\frac{n_2}{n_1}=1.6$
$\Rightarrow n_2=n_{21}\times n_1=1.6\times 1.5=2.4$
Therefore, the absolute refractive index of diamond is 2.4.
