Solution

The correct option is A

Both A and R are correct and R explains A

There are number of abiotic factors that can slow or fasten the rate of decomposition process in an ecosystem and temperature is one of the major abiotic factor that can effect the rate of metabolic activity in decomposers drastically. Decomposers are mainly fungi and soil microbes that feed on dead decaying matter or detritus as the source of energy for their survival. Decomposers are very active in soils having a temperature of more than 25°C, with good moisture and aeration. At higher altitudes the temperature becomes very low (< 10oC) and reduces the activity of soil microbes.
