There is an increase in the intra-abdominal pressure of pregnant women. This results in an even larger gradient of pressure between oesophagus and stomach. Since, the content inside the stomach has a tendency to move towards a lower pressure region, hence, gastric juices are pushed more towards the oesophagus and this is known as gastric reflux.
