Rhizopus is a filamentous fungus and it reproduces by sporangiospores, aplanospores and chlamydospores. Sporangiospores are produced by asexual mode in the sporangium. The sporangium is supported by the sporangiophore and rhizoids. Sporangiospores produces may undergo mitosis to form other spores or undergo meiosis to form haploid spores. Columella is present in the sporangium. The space between columella and wall of sporangium is known as spore sac. It remains filled with sporangiospores or aplanospores which germinates to form mycelia. Chlamydospores are thick-walled, asexually produced spores arising from the modification of a hyphal segment.
