S1. In December 2002, a group of Indian scientists appealed to UNESCO to declare the Lonar crater as a heritage site.
P. Lonar is a village about 800 kms from Mumbai in Maharashtra.
Q. It is like any other village in India, except that 50,000 years ago a huge meteorite fell there.
R. The meteorite, about 50 to 60 kms across came hurtling down from outer space and hit the ground in this region.
S4. The result is that it now has a huge crater, one of the largest in the world.
