Solution

Let x is the amount invested in first case than amount invested in second case equal to 16500-x

First case

10% Rs 100 share at Rs 130

It means 10*100/100 = 10 rupee he will get on investment of 130 rupee

So total amount he will get in this investment = (x/130)*10 = x/13

Second case

8% Rs 100 share at 120

It means 8*100/100 = 8 rupee he will get on investment of 120

(16500-x)*8/120 = 1/15*(16500-x)

Total annual income from shares = x/13 + (16500-x)/15

1180 = x/13 + (16500-x)/15

1180*15*13 = 15x + (16500-x)*13

230100 = 15x + 214500-13x

15600 = 2x

x = 15600/2

x = 7800

So amount invested in first case = 7800 and in second case = 16500-7800 = 8700

Answer :

First case = 7800

Second case = 8700
