To find 'who worked longer' lets make the denominators of both the fractions same. So we can easily compare them by looking at their numerator.

Time taken by Santra = $\frac{9}{16}$

Time taken by Vaibhav = $\frac{5}{8}=\frac{5\times 2}{8\times 2}=\frac{10}{16}$

By looking at the numerator, 10 > 9. So Vaibhav worked longer.

Difference will be, $=\frac{10}{16}-\frac{9}{16}=\frac{1}{16}hrs$
So, by $\frac{1}{16}$ hours it was longer.
