Question

Sarita's mother is now four times as old as Sarita. Five years hence, her mother will be three times as old as Sarita will be then. Find their present ages.

Assume the age of Sarita to be S and the age of her mother to be M.
M = 45 ……….. .(1)
After 5 years,
M + S = 3 (5 + 5) ……….. (2)
From (1) and (2)
45 + 5 = 35 + 15
= 45 – 35
= 15 – 5
S = 10
M = 45 = 4 × 10 = 40
The mother’s age is 40 years and Sarita’s age is 10 years.
