Scala tympani, known as tympanic duct is a cavity in the inner ear which is filled with perilymph. Basilar membranes separates tympanic duct from cochlear duct. The function of tympanic duct is to transduce the movement of air by which tympanic membrane and ear ossicles vibrate. This leads to movement of fluid and basilar membrane which transmits the vibrations to hair cells in organ of Corti and impulses are generated.
