Solution

The correct option is D 1 - T, 2 - T, 3 - T

Mosquitoes cannot spread HIV because:

  • HIV is destroyed in the alimentary canal of mosquitoes.
  • After biting one person, mosquitoes never bite another person immediately. They relax and digest their meal.
  • While biting a person, mosquitoes release their saliva and not the previously sucked blood.
  • HIV cannot grow inside the body of the mosquito as they don’t have HIV specific receptors. The HIV specific receptors are usually found on the surface of the cells (such as helper T cells) which are recognised by the HIV and eventually HIV binds and infects that cell.
