The Huns or Shweta Huns were a tribe originating from Northern China. The Huns invaded Iran first and then made their way to India in the 5th Century. The Huns were warlike in nature and had many great chieftains. Some of these chieftains include Toramana and Mihirakula. Toramana was said to have led the first invasions to India. But he was stopped by the Gupta ruler, Narendragupta. In 480 CE the Huns finally defeated the Guptas and took the northern regions. The Gupta empire disintegrated by 550 CE giving rise to smaller kingdoms.
