  • Bony covering: The bony covering of the brain is called cranium which is also known as brain box. Whereas bony covering of spinal cord is called the vertebral column.
  • Meninges: These are the three protective coverings that surrounds and protects the brain and spinal cord. These are Dura mater, Arachnoid mater and Pia mater from outer to inner side.
  • Cerebrospinal fluid: Present between the meninges is a colourless fluid called the cerebrospinal fluid. It absorbs shocks and jerks. The brain constitutes 2% of the total body weight.
