Question

Shazila took a wire of length 44 cm and bent it into the shape of a circle. Find the radius of that circle. Also find its area. If the same wire is bent into the shape of a square, what will be the length of each of its sides? Which figure encloses more area, the circle or the square? (Take π =227)

Solution

The circumference of the circle is given as 44cm.

C=2πr

44=2×227×r

r=44×72×22

r=7cm

The area of the circle is,

A=πr2

=227×(7)2

=154cm2

The perimeter of the square is given as 44cm. Let a be the side of the aquare.

P=4×a

44=4a

a=11cm

The area of the square is,

A=a2

=(11)2

=121cm2

From both the areas, it can be observed that the area of the circle is more than the area of the square.
