What are Puranas? Mention some of their features.

The term Purana literary means old. The Puranans are collections of old Hindu religious stories. Here are some of their features:
∙∙ They contain stories about Gods and Goddesses such as Vishnu, Shiva, Durga and Parvati.
∙∙ They also contain details of how these deities are to be worshipped.
∙∙ It contains accounts of different kings and the creation of the world.
∙∙ Puranas unlike Vedas, could be read and heard by everybody including women and Shudras.
