Trace the cyclic electron pathway, naming and explaining the main events that occur as electrons cycle.

Solution

Cyclic electron pathway is followed by the chloroplast of green plants which results in the production of ATP but not NADPH or O2.In the pathway only photosystem 1 is present. The events that occur during the cycle electron pathway are:-
• The electrons that were excited by P700 move along a chain of electron carriers.
• The electron never reaches NADP+.
• As the electrons reach ferredoxin, they are transferred to the cytochrome bf complex.
• Then when the electrons are transferred to plastocyanin, an ATP molecule is made from ADP and Pi.
• Then from plastocyanin, the electrons flow back to the P700+.
