The pancreas serves as an exocrine gland secreting the enzymes protease (trypsin and chymotrypsin), amylase and lipase. It also serves as an endocrine gland that secretes the hormones insulin and glucagon responsible for maintaining the blood glucose levels. It also secretes hormone somatostatin that inhibits the secretion of insulin and glucagon. So, the pancreas serves both as an endocrine and an exocrine gland.
