Solution

Respiratory quotient is the ratio of the volume of carbon dioxide evolved to that of oxygen consumed by an organism, tissue, or cell in a given time. A value of 0.7 indicates that lipids are being metabolized, 0.8 for proteins, and 1.0 for carbohydrates. The approximate respiratory quotient of a mixed diet is 0.8.
Castor oil seeds have lipids and have an R.Q less than 0.7.
Wheat has carbohydrates and has R.Q of 1.
