Question

Should the +ve terminal of the ammeter be connected to the +ve terminal of the battery? Why? Why not?

Open in App
Solution

  • Yes, the positive terminal of the ammeter must be connected to positive terminal of the battery only. Then, the current flows through the meter in such a way that the pointer in the meter moves towards right starting from zero at the extreme left of the scale.
  • If positive terminal of the ammeter is connected to negative terminal of the battery, then the current direction gets reversed and the pointer tries to deflect towards left side of the zero of the scale in the meter. So, the meter can't measure the current and moreover the needle gets damaged.
