We need to study them, to develop a thought process as that of a scientist, a problem solver, the things that you are studying now, will never be useful to you but they will help you to understand how great minds think, for instance how they thought when posed a problem of how the atom is arranged.
And also one reason is that you won't be able to understand anything if you are directly taught wave mechanics model, which you might not have heard of. These models of atoms are not wrong but they are obselete, for instance J.J. Thomson thought that the atoms should be electrically neutral, ofcourse his model was wrong (plum-pudding model), but the electrically neutral concept is used now also. Same way the Bohr's model is also true but only for 1 electron system. These models, what you are studying now are the basics for what is going to come next, ofcourse if you take sciece as your field of study. Consider them as the basic A, B, C reqiured to learn the language of atoms.
