Andhra Maha Sangham played a pivotal role in the freedom movement of Hyderabad.
In early 20th century, a large number of books were printed in Telugu in Andhra region. Libraries were setup in towns and villages.
Later in 1901, Sri Krishnadevarya Andhra Basha Nilayam was established in Hyderabad by Kommaraju Lakshmana Rao along with Ravichettu Ranga Rao. The Andhra Basha Nilayam continues even today.
The discrimination against the Telugu continued in the state. A meeting was conducted in 1921 at Viveka Vardhini College in Hyderabad. In this meeting, a person was insulted for using Telugu in their resolution rather than in English or Urdu. The Telugu speaking people felt very offended by this incident and this triggered them to fight for the rightful place for Telugu in the state.
Later in 1924, Madapati Hanumatha Rao and others formed the Andhra Jana Sangham.
